Today is one of the most important days for Europe.

• 69 Years Passed since the end of WWII in Europe.

The 9th of May was the first day of a new Europe. The Germans agreed to surrender on the 7th and at the end of the 8th they would stop any agressive action.

• Europe day for the European Union

Based on the Schuman Declaration on the 9th of May, 1950. The base for the future of the European Union.

• Victory day for the Soviet Union (Russia) and Soviet Republics (Romania, Bulgaria, Poland and so on)

Marking the capitulation of Nazi Germany. It was on the 9th of May that the Soviet government announced the unconditional surrender of Germany.

• Victory Day London, a celebration that happens since 2007.

A day when British and Russians get together to celebrate their joint victory over Nazi Germany.

• Romania celebrates independence from the Ottoman Empire (1877,  137 years ago)

Also result of an war between two Great Power of the time, Russia and Ottomans. The Russian victory with the Romanian help, led to an agreement in which Ottomans agreed to recognize Romania as an independent state, but Romania had to cede territory to Russia.

Some may argue that the 8th of May is more important, since it is the Victory Day for most Western European countries, but today we can also celebrate the future, the good things in Europe and the European Union that makes easier for an European to travel around Europe.
