Far from Europe but sometimes considered as European, it is the ninth largest country in the world in terms of land area, and the largest country in the world without a coastline. This characteristic makes Kazakhstan a transcontinental nation that receives very few visitors.
It is the most economically advanced country among all the “ists” that came out of the extinct USSR and its capital, Nursultan (former Astana), already very much resembles a European, cosmopolitan, prosperous and modern metropolis, full of hotels, high-end cars and luxurious boutiques.
But Kazakhstan also has an attractive rural side, with vast fertile steppes in surprising activities, and where nomadic families surprise the visitor with unmatched agility with horses. And then there are the community ecotourism programs, the flamingos in the lakes, the underground mosques … Kazakhstan is really a country full of surprises.
